 A Primer on Psychotherapy for Substance Use

Learning Objectives: 

  • Describe the key components of motivational interviewing essential for patient engagement
  • List and apply basic behavioural psychotherapy principles to patient who use substance with a focus on the community reinforcement approach and SMART recovery
  • Identify and describe evidence based therapy supports for family members of people who use substances.

Advances in Neuroscience and Novel Treatments of PTSD

Learning Objectives: 

  • Review current PTSD treatment
  • Describe novel treatments 
  • Describe advances in neuroscience of memory reconsolidation.
  • Provide example of a novel non-pharmacological treatment (Brainspotting)
